Senator Donna Campbell is a conservative who has spent a lifetime helping others through medicine and Christian ministry. She is a double-board certified physician and proud parent of four daughters, with the youngest attending public school in Comal County. She lives in New Braunfels and divides her work between free-standing emergency rooms in San Antonio, Houston, and Austin.
Senator Campbell is certified in both emergency room medicine and ophthalmology. She completed her Masters of Nursing from Texas Woman's University as a Cardiovascular Clinical Nurse Specialist. She received her M.D. from Texas Tech University, where she was a member of Alpha Omega Alpha, the honor society for medical schools.
Senator Campbell has been recognized by the Texas Conservative Coalition as one of the Top Five Courageous Conservatives in the Senate. She sits on the Education, Transportation, Jurisprudence, Veterans Affairs & Military Installations committees, and serves as the vice-chair of Nominations. She was most recently appointed to the Sunset Advisory Commission to help find efficiencies in state government.
In 2013, Governor Perry appointed Senator Campbell to represent Texas on the Southern Regional Education Board Legislative Advisory Council. She has been recognized for her legislative accomplishments by the NRA and the Texas Alliance for Life, winning the Courageous Defense of Life Award for her work during the 83rd Legislature.
Senator Campbell has served as the Emergency Department Medical Director for several hospitals, including working for the third largest emergency medicine group in the country. She has performed hundreds of eye surgeries in Ghana, West Africa, volunteering with the Christian Eye Ministry, and later International Aid.
In 2012, she defeated a 29-year incumbent to become only the fifteenth woman to ever serve in the Texas Senate. Senator Donna Campbell was born on a naval base and grew up with a great respect for the military and law enforcement. Her public service reflects these values.
