Tim Kleinschmidt, born in Giddings, TX in 1956, is a Lee County attorney, rancher, family-man and civic leader serving Texas House District 17, which, after re-districting includes all of Bastrop, Caldwell, Gonzales, Karnes and Lee Counties. In his third term as a representative, Tim currently serves on the Agriculture & Livestock and the Homeland Defense and Public Safety Committees in the Texas House Of Representatives, and is Chairman of the House Republican Caucus Policy Committee.
A lifelong resident of Lee County, Tim was raised by two public school educators. The Lexington High School gymnasium is named for his father, A.P. Kleinschmidt, a longtime local school superintendent. Tim and his wife, Anna, raised their three children and sent them to public schools in Lexington. Their oldest two children have graduated from UT and A&M and the youngest is currently attending A&M.
A longtime city attorney for the cities of Giddings, Lexington, and Round Top, Texas, Tim has practiced law for 32 years in Central Texas. He is a local rancher and enjoys hunting and outdoor sports. He is active at First Baptist Church of Lexington. He is also a member of the Farm Bureau, Lee County Bar Association, a life member of the NRA, and belongs to the Texas & Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association, the Texas Wildlife Association, Texas Conservative Coalition and numerous other organizations.
Education:
Tim graduated as valedictorian from Lexington High School in 1975, received a Bachelor of Science with honors from Texas A&M University in 1978 and a degree of Juris Doctor from Baylor University School of Law in 1981. Tim was admitted to practice law in Texas in 1981, and is a member of the State Bar of Texas. Tim has been working in Giddings since 1981. His areas of experience include municipal law, real estate, oil and gas, creation of business entities, wills, probate, trusts, estate, commercial litigation, collections, banking and local counsel for non-resident law firms.
Tim is in his third term in the Texas House of Representatives and looks forward to serving the people of District 17 and the State of Texas in the future. He has already began to campaign for his fourth term in the Texas House.
