+ − Biography
A 6th generation South Texas rancher, family man, business man, guardsman, and former Ag teacher known for passing more legislation than any other State Representative in the last decade, he's been named "Best Legislator" and "Legislator Of The Year" by nearly a dozen organizations. This year, Capitol Inside called him a "House Bill Machine," and a "one-person assembly line for legislation."
Born to two public school educators and after losing his mother and step-dad to a tragic car accident at a young age, Texas State Representative Ryan Guillen has dedicated his adult life to public service to "try to make a difference in the short time we have on Earth."
Elected to the State House in 2002, he's now serving his sixth term in the Texas House of Representatives where he represents District 31 encompassing 10 counties in South Texas, including Atascosa, Brooks, Duval, Jim Hogg, Kenedy, La Salle, Live Oak, McMullen, Starr, and Willacy. He previously also represented Webb and Zapata. Having served on nearly 25 legislative committees and chaired committees under two separate administrations, including having vice-chaired the powerful Appropriations Committee, he is often hand-picked to serve on select committees charged with finding solutions to unique challenges. He currently serves on the Committee on Licensing & Administrative Procedures and as Chair of the Culture, Recreation & Tourism Committee which oversees parks, wildlife, fisheries, libraries, historical landmarks, the arts, tourism, and Texas's image and heritage.
He has opened more district offices than any other district in the state, has conducted listening tours in every community in the district, hosts an annual Student Legislative Session and a seasonal Legislative Fellowship at the state capitol to educate and inspire our youth, and this year hosted an annual Community Summit to connect South Texas communities with state resources.
He is endorsed by every agricultural, business, disability, educational, faith-based, energy production, healthcare, property rights, public safety, retiree, transportation, and wildlife group that endorses in Texas.
Representative Ryan Guillen and his wife, Dalinda, have two daughters, 3 year-old, Cinco, and 5 month-old, Viva.
