+ − Biography
Phil Stephenson is the State Representative for the newly drawn House District 85. HD 85 includes Southwest Fort Bend as well as Wharton and Jackson Counties.
Phil Stephenson has been a practicing Certified Public Accountant with his own firm since 1976. After graduating in 1969 from Texas Tech, Stephenson moved to Dallas after a national firm hired him. In 1973 Stephenson relocated to Wharton, where three years later he opened his own practice. He and his wife, Barbara would raise their two children, Scott and Allison (both CPA´s) in their adopted hometown.
Phil Stephenson´s passionate involvement in politics reaches back more than a decade. He has served numerous terms both as County Chair and Precinct Chair in Wharton County. In 2000 Stephenson ran for State Representative, going to battle against an incumbent.
Phil Stephenson´s interest in the health of his community is not limited to politics alone. Elected to the Wharton County Jr. College Board of Trustees in 1996 (currently Vice-Chair), Phil Stephenson has been instrumental in the explosive growth of the college; which now sports three satellite campuses, including a partnership with the University of Houston in Sugar Land.
Baseball is Stephenson´s official past time, and he has maintained a lifelong commitment to the game. Even though his tenure as pitcher for the Red Raiders ended decades ago, Stephenson has been a proactive coach for all ages of young baseball players; including coaching in the Babe Ruth League and as an Associate Scout for the Kansas City Royals.
