+ − Biography
A native of San Antonio, José Menéndez was first elected State Representative for House District 124 in the year 2000. He is currently serving his seventh term in the Texas House and is the Chairman of the Committee on Defense and Veterans' Affairs, and continues to serve on the powerful Committee on State Affairs.
Representative Menéndez graduated from Central Catholic High School and went on to receive degrees in Business Administration and Latin American Studies from Southern Methodist University (SMU) in Dallas, Texas. José currently serves as a Vice President for Stewart Title Guaranty.
He was first elected to represent San Antonio City Council in 1997. Then, with an 84.5% share of the district's total vote, he celebrated his re-election to a second City Council in 1999. During his tenure, José served as Chair of the International Relations Committee and was a member of the Small Business Strategy Committee.
During his first legislative session he was appointed to the Committee on Financial Institutions and the Juvenile Justice and Family Issues Committee. He has also served several sessions on Appropriations, Urban Affairs and Licensing and Administrative Procedures Committees
Representative Menéndez is focused on many important issues involving Veteran’s health, education, and employment benefits. He is actively addressing the concerns of the tens of thousands active military and their families who are stationed in Texas. He remains very committed to improving the state’s public education system, utilities and energy infrastructure, housing and economic development issues, health and human services matters and the state's operating budget.
Representative Menéndez has been married to Cehlia Newman-Menéndez since 1995. In his spare time, José enjoys spending time with his three young children, Dominic, Victoria, and Austin
