Representative Eddie Rodriguez was first elected to the State Legislature in 2002. He was re-elected in November 2012 to his sixth term as the Representative from District 51, serving East and South Austin, and Southeast Travis County.
Currently Eddie serves on the House Committees on Business & Industry and Economic & Small Business Development. He is founder and Chair of the Texas House Farm-to-Table Caucus, Vice-Chair of the Mexican American Legislative Caucus, and an active member of the House Democratic Caucus and the Legislative Study Group.
Eddie was born and raised in McAllen, Texas. A graduate from McAllen Memorial High School, he studied two years at St. Mary's University in San Antonio before earning his B.A. in Government from The University of Texas at Austin in 1995. He earned his law degree from the University of Texas in 2008.
Eddie's legislative agenda includes bills to address public and higher education, regional transportation and economic development, job creation and workforce training, hunger and nutrition, affordable housing and neighborhood preservation, environmental conservation and renewable energy, public safety, health and human services, civil rights and equal opportunities for all Texans.
Eddie serves on the boards of Austin Habitat for Humanity, Urban Roots, the Alliance for Public Transportation, the City of Austin's Working Group on Sustainable Development, the Economic Growth Business Incubator, and the Anti-Defamation League-Austin Chapter. He is President Emeritus of Austin Pets Alive!, which provides humane education and programs to stop to the killing of companion animals.
Eddie is married to Christine Garrison and they are the proud parents of Jack and Sophie.
