William San Bento Jr. (D) has served the residents of Pawtucket in District 58 since he was first elected in November 1992. He previously also served North Providence, but the 2012 redistricting process shifted his district entirely into Pawtucket.
Aside from his duties as a legislator, he is a business owner and insurance agent. The representative belongs to Professional Insurance Agents, the Independent Agents Association and the Pawtucket 6th Ward Democratic Committee. He is a past chairman of the Pawtucket Democratic City Committee.
Among his legislative accomplishments, Representative San Bento’s bill allowing Rhode Island’s gaming facilities to increase their promotional points passed the General Assembly in 2012. The law is intended to increase the facilities’ abilities to compete and strengthen their economic impact on the state. He also was a strong supporter of legislation that was approved by the voters in November 2012 to expand Twin River to include table games.
He co-sponsored legislation in 2012 which authorized Pawtucket to issue tax anticipates notes to help the city through a financial crisis.
Born on December 11, 1946, he is married to Joanne and they have three children: Todd, Chad and Heather. He is the grandfather of five.
