Peter F. Martin (D) represents District 75 in Newport, and was first elected in November 2008.
Rep. Martin has a long history of public service, dating back to being a Senate Page from 1960 to 1964, while attending Providence College, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1964.
He is the Secretary of the House Judiciary Committee and serves as a member of the House Veterans Affairs Committee. He was previously the Vice Chair of the House Committee on Municipal Government. Rep. Martin is also the commissioner of the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission.
During the 2011 legislative session, a resolution by Representative Martin led to Governor Chafee's pardon of John Gordon, an Irish immigrant who was hanged in 1845 for the murder of Amasa Sprague, a Rhode Island mill owner.
Prior to this pardon, Representative Martin was able to get legislation passed to assist the Rhode Island Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force to expedite its investigation of traders of Child Pornography and other Cybercrimes.
Rep. Martin’s 2012 legislation led to the Division of Motor Vehicles to make allowing veterans to request that their status as honorably discharged service members be imprinted on either their driver’s license and their state issued identification card.

Rep. Martin earned his Master’s of Business Administration degree in 1977 from Bryant College. He is a retired Software Application and Product Marketing Consultant, Real Estate Investor, and Web Site Developer.
He was born on May 3, 1941. He has two daughters, Michele of London and Christine of San Francisco.
