Representative Moira J. Walsh (D) represents District 3 in Providence. She was first elected in November 2016. She serves as a member of the House Committee on Environment and Natural Resources.
Representative Walsh has a history of organizing workers and legislative advocacy. Most notably, she assisted in reforming the state’s tipped minimum wage law to ensure the first increase in nearly two decades. As a representative, she has sponsored legislation aimed at gradually increasing the tipped minimum wage over several years and linking it proportionally to the standard minimum wage. In 2017, she introduced legislation reinstating no-fare bus passes for low-income elderly and disabled Rhode Islanders, a measure that was ultimately included in the state budget. In 2018, she cosponsored new laws aimed at preventing opioid overdose deaths, allowing next of kin to designate gender identity on death certificates, and prohibiting restraints on prisoners who are in their third trimester of pregnancy.
Representative Walsh was born on August 23, 1990. She is a graduate of Classical High School in Providence and attended Rhode Island College and Community College of Rhode Island. She has a son, Malcolm Caminero.
