Representative Donna M. Walsh (D) has represented residents of Charlestown, New Shoreham, South Kingstown and Westerly since first being elected in November 2006. She had previously served in the Rhode Island Senate from 1997 to 2002 and was a deputy majority leader there.
She also served on the Charlestown Town Council from 1982 to 1984 and again from 2004 to 2006.
Representative Walsh has been an advocate for the environment, health, justice and equity, good government and small business. Among her achievements are a mandatory product stewardship program to reduce waste from paint products, the Colin B. Foote Act to catch habitually dangerous drivers, and a law that requires the phase-out of
cesspools that are failing or are located in critical areas near water.
She received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Rhode Island in 1971 and 1976, respectively, and is also a graduate of Trenton (NJ) Central High School.
A retired teacher, Representative Walsh is a board member of the Cross Mills Public Library and state president of Rhode Island Business Professional Women. She is a member of Chariho Business and Professional Women, the Cross Mills Fire Co. Auxiliary, South County Conservancy, the Audubon Society, the Wood-Pawcatuck Watershed Association; the Hopkinton Historical Society and the Charlestown Historical Society.
Born on Jan. 28, 1943, she and her husband Henry live in Charlestown and have a son, Henry.
