Representative Josh West has represented Oklahoma’s 5th House District since January 2017. A decorated U.S. Army veteran, he was deployed to both Iraq and Afghanistan. In October 2003, during a firefight in Karbala, Iraq, he was shot multiple times in the legs and abdomen while shielding and evacuating his injured battalion commander under fire. For his valor, West received numerous honors, including the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star with “V” Device for Valor, among other commendations. After nine years of service, he was medically retired from the Army in 2005.
In 2016, West was elected to the Oklahoma House of Representatives. He currently serves as Majority Floor Leader and previously served as Majority Leader. He is a co-founder and former chair of the Legislative Veterans Caucus, advocating for veteran-related initiatives at the State Capitol.
Raised in Grove, West graduated from Grove High School in 1995 and attended Missouri Valley College on a football scholarship. He and his wife reside in the district with their four children.
