State Representative Michael P. Sheehy (D-Oregon) is serving an unexpired term vacated by former Rep. Matt Szollosi. District 46 spans several political subdivisions including Jerusalem Township on the east to Springfield Township on the west. The district includes the cities of Oregon, Maumee, parts of Toledo, and the Village of Holland.
Rep. Sheehy has served in municipal government for nearly two decades. Mike has served several terms as President of Oregon City Council, and has most recently served on Oregon Council’s Public Utilities and Environment Committees, as well as being chairman of Oregon Council’s Safety Committee. He is the City of Oregon’s environmental representative on TMACOG and serves on the city’s Tree Commission.
Rep. Sheehy earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Toledo 1971 where he was also commissioned a Lieutenant in the US Army. Rep. Sheehy served as a personnel administrative officer during the Viet Nam war era. Upon his return from military service, Rep. Sheehy continued his employment on the CSX Railroad as yard conductor. He was employed at CSX until September of 2013. Mike’s railroad career included Yard Foreman, Freight Conductor and Remote Control Operator. Additional assignments with that regional carrier included several years as an Instructor in CSX’s Conductor Training Program. Rep. Sheehy also held local union offices with The United Transportation Union (SMART) and was chairman of Operation RED BLOCK. Red Block is a corporation sponsored, union operated committee to ensure a drug and alcohol free workplace.
Rep. Sheehy with his wife Sandra recently celebrated thirty five years of marital bliss. Sandy and Mike have four grown children, Hugh, Cate, Elizabeth and Thomas.
