Representative David Leland has lived in the 22nd Ohio House District for more than 43 years; always committed to making this north Columbus community a better place to live and work. Over the years, he has volunteered with many organizations, such as the Clintonville-Beechwold Community Resources Center, Clintonville Area Commission, Friends of the Library, and the Clintonville 4th of July Celebration. His commitment to community service was recognized by the OSU Alumni Association with its Citizenship Award.
First elected to the Ohio House of Representatives at age 29, he authored seven bills into law and was a major proponent of Ohio’s collective bargaining law. Leleand was voted the outstanding freshman State Representative of the 115th Ohio General Assembly.
In 1995, Leland was elected to the first of four terms as Chair of the Ohio Democratic Party. He chaired the Ohio delegations to the 1996 and 2000 Democratic National Conventions.
In 2000 he was appointed to the Federal Service Impasse Panel by President Bill Clinton.
As Finance Chair for Ted Strickland’s successful 2006 campaign for Ohio Governor, David raised a then-record amount of over $17 million. He later served as President/CEO of the Strickland-Fisher Inaugural Committee, Inc.
An avid baseball fan, Rep. Leland serves on the Board of Trustees (currently chair emeritus) of the Columbus Clippers, the Cleveland Indians Triple-A franchise.
During his eight year tenure on the Clippers’ Board, the team won back-to-back National Championships and built its award-winning stadium, Huntington Park.
Representative David Leland is a graduate of Columbus North High School, The Ohio State University, and Capital University Law School and is currently a partner at the Columbus Law firm Carpenter Lipps & Leland.
