I'm proud to say I started working at 15 and I've never stopped. Starting as a waitress in a small restaurant, I worked my way up to become a restaurant manager. After the birth of my son, I opened my first business in 1990 as a childcare provider. I moved into real estate in 1996 and I opened my own real estate office in the city of Poughkeepsie in 2002. In 2003 I moved my office to Hyde Park, where today I work with 26 sales associates.
The real estate industry was hit hard with the economic downturn. Like so many small businesses, we were forced to do more with less. As a small business owner, I've had to deal with the realities of doing business in New York.
I was elected to the Hyde Park Town Board in 2010 and then the Dutchess County Legislature in 2011. As a county legislator, I've stood up for taxpayers, despite the pressure to raise taxes. I was one of only three Republicans to vote NO on the home energy sales tax. Taxes are high enough and government needs to learn to live within its means. You can be sure I'll take the same kind of principled stands in Albany.
