One of five sons born and raised in Schenectady County in a traditional, working class family, George embraced the values of hard work, decency and integrity—principals that would become the core of his business and public life.
Hard work paid off as he worked tirelessly in his family business, Amedore Homes, which has welcomed hundreds of families into their new homes and helped create hundreds of jobs right here in New York.
George Amedore believes that everyone deserves a chance to succeed and achieve their own American dream, and that we all have a responsibility to give back and support the vibrancy of our growing communities in the Capital Region, Mohawk and Hudson Valleys.
He, himself, has been actively involved in a broad range of projects, which help our neighbors throughout the region, from rebuilding the family room at Albany’s Ronald McDonald House and creating a new hospice facility, to construction of a new memorial to honor local veterans.
His family’s charitable work extends to organizations which aid orphans in Texas, Mexico and South Africa, in addition to the numerous other community causes.
The Amedore name became familiar to millions of New Yorkers when his company constructed a home for a deserving local family, which was featured on the Emmy-award winning “Extreme Makeover” program.
George’s passion for serving others is the reason he sought a seat in the State Assembly, where he has served for the past five years, representing Schenectady and Montgomery Counties.
As a Member of the Assembly, George brought his business man’s judgment and common sense principles to state government, championing lower taxes, cutting the red tape, and releasing the entrepreneurial spirit of New York’s businesses to spur job creation.
He is proud to be part of a new era in Albany, where partisanship, deadlock and dysfunction is increasingly replaced with a genuine spirit of cooperation and public service.
From a long-sought property tax cap, to the first real effort to rein in government spending in more than a decade, there is a true sense of what can be achieved by reaching across the political aisle and doing what is right for New Yorkers.
In 2011, George was active in connecting state and local resources to families and communities that were impacted by the devastating floods that followed Tropical Storms Irene and Lee. He continues to be involved with the recovery and rebuilding effort throughout the region and is committed to seeing a complete revitalization in the affected communities.
In the State Senate, George Amedore will continue to serve his community, work to create a better quality of life, and build a brighter future for the people of the Capital Region, Hudson and Mohawk Valleys.
