+ − Biography
Michael Montesano (R,I,C-Glen Head) was elected to the New York State Assembly in a Special Election on February 9, 2010.
Job creation and turning the economy around are a top priority for Assemblyman Montesano, who wants to spark economic growth by getting state government out of the way of small business. Montesano will fight to reduce job-killing business taxes and cut burdensome regulations that are driving people and jobs out of Nassau County.
Montesano will fight to cap and cut out-of-control school property taxes and restore the STAR property tax rebate checks for Nassau County homeowners who pay some of the highest property tax bills in the country. Cutting wasteful government spending and eliminating unfair, job-killing taxes like the MTA payroll tax is also high on his agenda.
Montesano, a Glen Head resident since 1979, was a police officer and detective for the NYPD for a decade and also served as an EMT supervisor and investigator for the NYC Emergency Medical Service.
Montesano started his own private practice law firm in 1990 and served as Acting Village Justice in Roslyn Harbor. He also was a Village Prosecutor for Roslyn Harbor and adjunct professor at the New York Institute of Technology.
He also served as a President, Vice-President and Trustee of the North Shore School District Board of Education and has volunteered for a variety of community groups.
He received an associate degree from Nassau County Community College, bachelors degree in Criminal Justice from St. Johns University, and law degree from CUNY Law School at Queens College.
Montesano has two children, Jennifer (age 26) of Glen Cove and Carmine (C.J., 23) of Glen Head. He and his wife, Donna, and her two children, Amanda and Michael, reside in Glen Head.
