+ − Biography
Niagara Falls native John Ceretto represents the people of the 145th district in the New York State Assembly. His district includes the city of Niagara Falls and the towns of Cambria, Grand Island, Lewiston, Niagara and Wheatfield as well as parts of North Tonawanda.
Assemblyman John Ceretto is currently the ranking Minority Member on the Assembly Tourism Committee and has worked to pass numerous bi-partisan measures such as the property tax cap and pro-jobs legislation like Power NY and ReCharge NY since first taking office in January 2011.
Ceretto attended La Salle Senior High School in Niagara Falls and is a graduate of Niagara University with a Bachelor�s and a Master’s degree in Education and Administration. While still in college, John worked for the Carborundum Abrasive Company. Upon completing his education, John worked as a substitute teacher in many of the local schools and then worked for 20 years at the Tulip Corporation in Niagara Falls.
In 1995, John Ceretto was elected as a councilman on the Lewiston Town Board. During his ten years as councilman, the business climate improved by leaps and bounds. John reduced taxes by over $1 million dollars and continuously worked to improve the quality of life in Lewiston. In 2005, John was elected Niagara County Legislator in the 12th District. Over the past five years, the county legislature has reduced taxes by 15.5 percent and reduced the size of government by 16 percent.
Ceretto served as Vice-Chairman of the Niagara County Economic Development Committee and Chairman of the Niagara County Refuse Department. In that role, he has sponsored prescription drug and electronic pickup programs to protect our environment.
Involved with his community, John Ceretto is a member of the Lewiston Kiwanis, the Lewiston #2 Fire Hall, the Christoforo Columbo Society, the Lewiston – Porter Historical Society and the Sanborn Historical Society.
John married his wife Beth in 1978 and moved to Lewiston, New York, where they currently reside with their four children.
