Anthony Brindisi represents the 119th Assembly District. Situated in the Mohawk Valley, in the heart of New York State, the district includes the cities of Utica and Rome and the towns of Floyd, Frankfort, Marcy and Whitestown. He was elected to the State Assembly in a special election on Sept. 13, 2011, and re-elected in 2012 and 2014.
Born and raised in Utica, Brindisi studied history at Siena College before receiving his Juris Doctor Degree from Albany Law School in 2004. He returned home to Utica after graduation where he lives with his wife, Erica, an instructor at Mohawk Valley Community College (MVCC), and their two children.
As a former school board member and father, Brindisi is committed to making sure all children have the tools they need to succeed. That includes a safe environment to grow up in and more adequate and equitable funding for schools. Recognizing the need to close the middle skills job gap and better prepare students for high-wage, high-skill, high-demand careers, Brindisi pursued his 21St Century Education Initiative to create a Career and Technical Education (CTE) diploma pathway for high school students. After a nearly two year effort, the New York State Board of Regents finally moved forward with the plan in October 2014.
Working in a bipartisan manner with his colleagues, Brindisi has fought to revitalize the economy of the Mohawk Valley by securing funding to help attract new business while at the same time strengthening existing businesses. Some of Brindisis accomplishments include helping to secure $180 million for the Nano Utica project on the campus of SUNY Polytechnic Institute in Marcy; several millions of dollars for cyber-security and unmanned aerial vehicle research and development at the Griffiss Business and Technology Park in Rome; and $5 million for renovations to the Utica Memorial Auditorium.
Brindisi is the Chair of the Subcommittee on Volunteer Emergency Services, and is a member of the Assemblys Economic Development; Higher Education; Transportation; Veterans Affairs; Energy; and Aging Committees.
