+ − Biography
Sworn into office on Wednesday, Jan. 9 to represent the 33rd District in the Missouri Senate, Sen. Mike Cunningham serves constituents in the counties of Texas, Wright, Webster, Douglas, Ozark Howell, Oregon, and Ripley.
A 1965 graduate of Macon High School, Sen. Cunningham attended Jacksonville University in Jacksonville, Fla., and received a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration with a minor in economics from Truman State University in 1972.
Before beginning his journey in the Missouri Legislature as a state representative (elected in 2002), Sen. Cunningham owned and managed Cunningham’s Fresh Foods, a supermarket in Marshfield, Mo.; he retired in 2001. Senator Cunningham also served as city administrator for Marshfield from 1974 to 1979 and worked for Coca-Cola USA in Atlanta, Ga. In addition, he received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Army, serving from 1967 to 1969, attaining the rank of sergeant E-5 in the military police.
In the Missouri Senate, Sen. Cunningham serves as vice chair of the Senate Financial and Governmental Organizations and Elections Committee, and is a member of the Commerce, Consumer Protection, Energy and the Environment Committee; the Governmental Accountability and Fiscal Oversight Committee; and the Veterans’ Affairs and Health Committee.
In addition to his legislative duties, Sen. Cunningham is a livestock farmer. He lives in Rogersville, Mo., and has three children: sons Zach and Seth, and daughter Leah, and her husband Jeremy. He also is a proud grandfather to Baylee, Connor, and Blaire.
