+ − Biography
Rep. Mike Cierpiot, a Republican, represents part of Jackson County (District 30) in the Missouri House of Representatives. He was elected to his first two-year term in November 2010.
Cierpiot was elected by his caucus and began his service as the Assistant Majority Floor Leader during the first regular session of the 97th General Assembly in January of 2013. After serving in that role for the 2013, 2014, and 2015 sessions, Cierpiot was elected by his colleagues to move into the role of Majority Floor Leader. He will serve in that position for the remainder of the 98th General Assembly.
During his time as a member of the Missouri House of Representatives, Cierpiot has been a champion for education reform. In 2014, he sponsored HB 1822 to clarify the state’s student transfer law, and help young people in struggling and failing schools districts to receive a quality education. During the 2014 session, he also saw two pieces of economic development legislation passed into law to secure jobs in the Kansas City area, and put Missouri motorcycle dealers on an even playing field with those in Kansas.
In addition to his legislative duties, Cierpiot worked at AT&T for 37 years as a network engineer.
Cierpiot is a member of Missouri Right to Life, Lee’s Summit Chamber of Commerce and the NRA. He is the recipient of the 2013 Public Official of the Year Award from Developmental Disability Services of Jackson County – EITAS (Empowering individuals through advocacy and support). He also has received the 2013 Spirit of Commerce Award from the Missouri Chamber of Commerce and the 2013 Legislative Award from the St. Louis Business Journal. In addition, he received the Defender of Prosperity Award in both 2013 and 2014 from Americans for Prosperity – Missouri.
Cierpiot is a 1971 graduate of De La Salle High School. He attended Longview Community College and the University of Missouri Kansas City.
Cierpiot was born January 14, 1953 in Kansas City, Missouri. He has lived in Eastern Jackson County for the past 40 years and currently resides in Lee’s Summit. He is married to his wife of 43 years, Connie J. Cierpiot, who also served as a state representative. They have two children and two grandchildren.
