Rep. Dean Dohrman, a Republican, represents Johnson, Pettis, and Saline counties (District 51). He was elected to his first two-year term in November 2012.
Dean Dohrman, Ph.D. also serves as a Senior Research Fellow at the American Leadership & Policy Foundation, Lead Faculty of Applied Social Sciences and Public Management at Colorado State University – Global Campus, and a public policy expert and author.
In addition to his legislative duties, Rep. Dohrman is an online professor. As a professor, Dr. Dohrman has instructed university courses in government, history, law, and public administration at State Fair Community College, the University of Central Missouri, Central Methodist University, and American Public University. Since 2011, Dr. Dohrman has been a program coordinator at Colorado State University—Global Campus and, most recently, was named the Lead Faculty of Applied Social Sciences/Public Management.
As an author, publisher, and a frequent media contributor, Dohrman has a passion for educating citizens on responsible civics and the importance of rational discourse. Recently, Dohrman launched PoliticalFAQs.com, a balanced and historically accurate online source of educational material, and is presently finishing a manuscript on the history of American constitutionalism – a citizen’s guide.
In addition to public service, Dr. Dohrman is a board member at the Association of Accredited Small Business Consultants. Dohrman began his agricultural and business career as a Presidential Management Intern working with export programs at the U.S. Department of Agriculture (U.S.D.A.). Dohrman went on to work at the U.S.D.A. and later became an export manager with a Fortune 500 company.
Dr. Dohrman holds a Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Studies—Public Policy, a Master of Arts in Political Science from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, a Master of Arts in History from the University of Central Missouri, and a Bachelor of Arts in History/Political Science from the University of Central Missouri. He lives on the family farm near La Monte, Missouri.
