Senator Butler is a member of Alcorn State University Alumni Association, Jackson State University Alumni Association, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity incorporated and a Mason. He is a Life Member of the NAACP.
Senator Butler is married to the former Malinda Boyd. They have four children, Shelia A. Morgan, Antoinette R. Gant, Albert Butler, Jr. and Alton D. Butler. He is a member of Magnolia M. B. Church
