State Senator Marty Knollenberg has been an Oakland County resident for his entire life. He attended Birmingham and Bloomfield Hills public schools, and currently lives in Troy with his wife Lori and two step-daughters, Lindsey and Lorrin. Knollenberg is a graduate of Albion College and has been a small business owner for 27 years.
He was first elected to public office in 2003, serving as a county commissioner representing the cities of Troy and Rochester Hills, where he served on the Finance, General Government and Building and Planning committees.
In 2007, he was elected to serve the cities of Troy and Clawson in the Michigan House of Representatives, a position he held until 2012. During his time in the House, he served as chairman of the Banking and Financial Services Committee with additional roles on the Education, Transportation, Commerce, New Economy and Redistricting committees. His accomplishments in the House include repealing the Michigan Business Tax, passing teacher tenure reform, cutting legislative pay and benefits and ending lifetime healthcare for legislators.
In 2014, residents of the 13th District elected Knollenberg to represent them in the Michigan Senate. He currently represents the cities of Berkley, Birmingham, Bloomfield Hills, Clawson, Rochester, Rochester Hills, Royal Oak and Troy. Knollenberg was appointed to serve as chairman of the Licensing and Regulatory Affairs Appropriations Subcommittee and on the Transportation and Corrections Appropriations subcommittees. He is also vice-chairman of the Education Committee and a member of the Finance and Regulatory Reform committees.
Knollenberg has been an activist and leader in Oakland County for decades volunteering with area organizations including the Kiwanis Club of Troy, the Deaf Community Action Network Board, the Troy Community Coalition and the Troy Prayer Breakfast Committee.
