+ − Biography
DISTRICT
State Representative Matt Lori was first elected to the Michigan House of Representatives in November 2008. Located in southwest Michigan, the district is rural with both agriculture-based and manufacturing industries. The 57th District encompasses St. Joseph County and part of Cass County including the city of Dowagiac and the townships of Calvin, Jefferson, La Grange, Marcellus, Mason, Newburg, Penn, Pokagon, Porter, Volinia and Wayne.
EDUCATION
Lori has a B.A. in public administration from Western Michigan University and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy. Additionally, he has extensive continuing education related to law enforcement.
PROFESSIONAL
Lori has served as St. Joseph County Sheriff for 20 years and has worked in law enforcement for 29 years. He has also served on the Three Rivers Health Board of Directors for eight years.
PAST PUBLIC OFFICES AND AFFILIATIONS
Lori has served five terms as St. Joseph County Sheriff.
PERSONAL
Lori’s wife Linda is a retired public school teacher. They have two adult sons.
PUBLIC SERVICE
Lori has extensive training in homeland security and emergency response management. He is actively involved in many charitable organizations, including fundraising efforts and working with the elderly.
COMMITTEES
Rep. Lori serves on the House Appropriations Committee. He serves as chair of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Community Health and is a member of the House Corrections, Department of Education, and School Aid appropriations subcommittees.
