State Representative Larry Inman was first elected to the Michigan House of Representatives in November 2014. He represents the 104th District of Grand Traverse County.
Inman chairs the Military & Veterans Affairs & State Police Subcommittee and the Joint Capitol Outlay Committee. He also serves on the Health and Human Services Subcommittee, School Aid and Department of Education Subcommittee and is a member of the Appropriations Committee.
Inman earned his Associate of Science degree from Northwestern Michigan College in Traverse City in 1974. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Northern Michigan University in Marquette in 1976. Inman received the Northwestern Michigan College Outstanding Alumni Award in 2005 and also received the Northern Michigan University Distinguished Alumni Award in 2008.
Inman is a retired vice president of Huntington National Bank—formerly Empire National Bank of Traverse City—with 28 years of service.
PAST PUBLIC OFFICES AND PROFESSIONAL AFFILIATIONS
Inman was elected to the Grand Traverse County Board of Commissioners in 1992 and served as a Grand Traverse County commissioner for 22 years. Inman served on the Northwest Regional Airport Commission of Cherry Capital Airport from 2007 to 2014, also serving as Chairman of the Board in 2008 and 2011. Inman was appointed by the past three governors—Engler, Granholm and Snyder—to serve on the State of Michigan Community Corrections Board in Lansing from 1994 to 2014, serving as Chairman of the Board by Governor’s appointment from 1999 to 2014. Inman served on the Northwest Michigan Council of Governments Board of Directors from 1998 to 2014, serving as Chairman of the Board from 2003 to 2014. Inman returned to Northern Michigan University after being appointed by Governor Engler to serve on the Northern Michigan University Board of Trustees from 2002 to 2006, and was later reappointed from 2009 to 2010 by the Governor. As a representative on the Grand Traverse Board of Commissioners, Inman was elected to serve on the Michigan Association of Counties Board of Directors in Lansing from 1998 to 2004, and was the State Association President from 2002 to 2003. In addition, Inman served on the National Association of Counties Board of Directors in Washington, D.C. from 2002 to 2004. He served on the National Association of Counties Finance and Intergovernmental Affairs Board from 2005 to 2014 and was Chairman of the Board from 2005 to 2006 and 2009 to 2011.
Inman has spent the past twenty-plus years as a collector, historian and educator on Amelia Earhart. He is currently preparing for the first-ever national traveling museum exhibit on her life and disappearance using his original historic collection. He is currently working with an international group coordinating documentation to assist in the search of Earhart’s plane, which disappeared on July 2, 1937 in the South Pacific Ocean during her attempted around-the-world flight.
