DISTRICT
State Rep. Holly Hughes was re-elected in 2016 to serve her third term as state representative of the 91st District in the Michigan House of Representatives. The 91st District encompasses part of Muskegon County including the cities of Montague, Norton Shores, Roosevelt Park, Whitehall, and the townships of Blue Lake, Casnovia, Cedar Creek, Dalton, Egleston, Fruitport, Holton, Montague, Moorland, Ravenna, Sullivan and White River.
COMMITTEES
Hughes is chair of the House Tourism and Outdoor Recreation Committee and is a member on the Commerce and Trade, Military and Veterans Affairs, and Family Children and Seniors committees.
EDUCATION
Hughes received her bachelor’s degree in business from Michigan State University in 1981.
PROFESSIONAL
Hughes served as state representative during the 2011-2012 and 2015-2016 terms, in addition to serving three terms as White River Township Trustee. She is a former Montague Area Public Schools board member and was appointed by Gov. John Engler to the MUSTFA Board.
Hughes is a small-business owner working in property management for MasterTag in Montague. She has worked at MasterTag, which manufactures horticulture tags, and with her family business Bolema Lumber, a retail hardware and lumber company and property management. She received the White Lake Chamber of Commerce Athena Award in 1999 which recognizes businesswomen and community leaders.
PUBLIC OFFICES AND AFFILIATIONS
Hughes has served and continues to serve on a number of boards, including the Muskegon Veterans Job Fair, which she co-founded in 2012. She was also appointed to the Muskegon Promise Zone Board by then Speaker Jase Bolger and is involved with the Senior Resources Board, Early Childhood Thrive, Muskegon Legends Flight, and the U.S.S. LST 393 Veterans Museum Board. A former Community Foundation for Muskegon County member, Hughes also serves on the White Lake Community Fund, Hackley Hospital Cornerstone Foundation, Tanglewood Park Project for Sr. Citizens, West Shore Symphony Orchestra, and White Lake Recyclers. Hughes attends Lebanon Lutheran Church and is a member of the Muskegon Rotary.
PERSONAL
Holly and her husband Rick reside in Montague. They have two daughters, Morgan and Taylor, and a son-in-law, Jonah who is married to Taylor.
