State Rep. Gail Haines was elected to her third term in the Michigan House in November 2012 to represent part of Oakland County including part of Waterford Township, the city of Lake Angelus, the village of Clarkston city and Independence Township.
Haines serves as chair of the House Health Policy Committee and an Assistant Majority Whip. She also serves on the House Committees on Michigan Competitiveness and Military and Veterans Affairs. She also is the state director for Women In Government and serves on the Health committees for the Midwestern Legislative Conference of the Council of State Governments and the National Conference of State Legislatures.
Haines received her bachelor of science in education from State University of New York, and her master’s degree in education from Nazareth College.
Haines is a 12-year public school teacher, serving also as a middle- and high school coach. She has also worked as a computer educator for a medical center. Haines is a former city council member and has participated in numerous volunteer organizations.
PAST PUBLIC OFFICES AND AFFILIATIONS
A former Lake Angelus City Council member, Haines has also served the 43rd District as community liaison for former state Rep. Fran Amos. She has also served on numerous political committees, including as executive committee member for the Oakland County Republican Party, a precinct delegate and North Oakland Republican Club member. She is also a graduate of the Michigan Political Leadership Program.
She has been married to her husband for 30 years and they have one son.
Haines has a history of public service in Waterford, using her many talents to improve the area through business, art and volunteering. She serves on Oakland University’s College of Arts and Sciences Advisory Board and serves on Oakland University’s Art Gallery Board. She also serves on the Dean’s Advisory Board for the University of Michigan-Flint. She is a member of the Waterford Chamber of Commerce, lifetime member of the Waterford Township Historical Society, Waterford Senior Center, Christmas in Action and numerous community groups. She is a member of the Waterford Central United Methodist Church.
