DISTRICT
State Rep. Daniela García was first elected to serve the 90th District in the Michigan House of Representatives in November 2014. The 90th District encompasses parts of Ottawa County, including the cities of Holland, Hudsonville and Zeeland, and the townships of Holland, Jamestown and Zeeland.
COMMITTEES
Rep. García is Vice Chair of the House Commerce and Trade Committee. She is also a member of the Education Reform, Health Policy, and Elections and Ethics committees.
EDUCATION
Rep. García is a graduate of West Ottawa High School and earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Michigan as well as a Master’s degree in Education Policy and Administration from Catholic University.
PROFESSIONAL
Before taking office, Rep. García amassed an impressive decade of public policy work at the federal and state levels. As an advisor to former U.S. Representative Pete Hoekstra, she assisted with the development of policy relating to K-12 and higher education as well as health care issues. García also worked for the U.S. House Committee on Education and the Workforce as advisor to the chairman, working to reform the federal No Child Left Behind program. Prior to serving as state representative, she was employed by Spectrum Health, a not-for-profit health care system serving the West Michigan community.
COMMUNITY OUTREACH AND AFFILIATIONS
Rep. Garcia has been involved in the greater Holland community through a variety of organizations, and served on the boards of the Children’s After School Achievement Program (CASA), Ronald McDonald House of Western Michigan, and Kids’ Food Basket.
