Rep. Brandon Dillon is serving his third term as state representative for House District 75, which covers portions of Grand Rapids.
In the state Legislature, Rep. Dillon has fought for Grand Rapids families, seniors and students. He’s championed tax relief initiatives, school funding improvements and efforts to bring better-paying jobs to Kent County. He has sponsored and co-sponsored legislation to:
Restore the Homestead Property Tax Credit and Earned Income Tax Credit, reinstate the $600 per-child tax deduction and eliminate the tax on seniors’ retirement income.
Require all money in the School Aid Fund to be spent only on PreK-12 education.
Determine the actual cost of education in Michigan schools, so that school funding can be appropriately set and so that our schools will not be underfunded.
Increase governmental transparency by requiring corporations to disclose political contributions.
Enact safeguards on the practice of hydraulic fracturing (“fracking”) that would protect public drinking water.
Ensure that Michigan’s LGBT community is protected from discrimination in housing, employment and other settings.
In his second term in the Legislature, Rep. Dillon served on the House Appropriations Committee. He was the Democratic vice chairman of the House Appropriations School Aid Subcommittee and also served on the Department of Community Health Subcommittee. Through his work in the Appropriations Committee and subcommittees, Rep. Dillon worked on budgets that restored some of the nearly $3 billion that have been siphoned away from public education since 2011. Dillon has tirelessly fought to fully restore school funding at every opportunity.
Before joining the Legislature, Dillon served as a Kent County commissioner. He voted against every tax increase and opposed increasing fees for basic services. He also demanded that local companies get preference for local government contracts because he believes our tax dollars should create jobs for our workers.
The father of twin boys and a daughter, Dillon is committed to building a stronger, more prosperous Michigan where our children can reach their full potential. He lives in Grand Rapids with his wife, Tammy, and their children.
