+ − Biography
State Representative Bill LaVoy is serving his second term representing Michigan’s 17th House District, which covers portions of Wayne and Monroe counties, including the cities of Monroe, Flat Rock and Rockwood. Bill is the son of retired Judge William LaVoy and the late Carolyn LaVoy, former principal of Orchard Alternative High School and Director of Senior Adult Education, whose commitment to their community fostered in Bill a sense of the importance of public service.
Bill, a lifelong resident of Monroe, attended Leadership Monroe, Monroe Catholic Central High School and the University of Michigan and continues to live in the city of Monroe with his wife, Michelle, and their daughters, Grace and Carolyn.
Before serving in the Legislature, Bill served 14 years as the executive director of Monroe Public Access Cable Television (MPACT). His experience includes serving on the City of Monroe Airport Board and the Monroe Cable Television Committee. He is a member of the Rotary Club of Monroe, having served on the board of directors and as president, and has volunteered as a teacher with Junior Achievement. Bill is also a member of the Monroe County Rod and Gun Club, the Monroe County Historical Society, the Michigan Democratic Party and St. Michael’s Catholic Church.
His priorities include restoring funding to schools, preserving the environment and ensuring fiscal responsibility.
