State Senator Eric P. Lesser represents the First Hampden & Hampshire District, which includes parts of the cities of Springfield and Chicopee, along with the towns of Belchertown, East Longmeadow, Granby, Hampden, Longmeadow, Ludlow, and Wilbraham.
In the Senate, Lesser advocates for greater economic opportunity and quality of life for Western Massachusetts, including initiatives around high-speed rail, promotion of a high-tech economy, combating opiate abuse, and investments in education and job training. As the youngest member of the Massachusetts Senate, Senator Lesser also champions civic engagement and greater participation in public affairs.
Senator Lesser serves as Senate Chair of the Joint Committee on Tourism, Arts & Cultural Development, and Senate Vice-Chair of the Committee on Financial Services. Senator Lesser is also a member of the committees on Transportation, Revenue, Economic Development & Emerging Technologies, Public Health, Elder Affairs, and Veterans & Federal Affairs, and the Special Senate Committee on Opioid Addiction Prevention, Treatment & Recovery Options.
Senator Lesser first became interested in public service high school, when he led a successful coalition of students, teachers, and parents to save teacher jobs during budget cuts. After graduating from Longmeadow High School, Senator Lesser earned his bachelor’s degree from Harvard College in 2007. After college, he joined the Obama for America campaign, during which he traveled with then-Senator Obama across 47 states. Following President Obama’s historic victory, Senator Lesser served as Special Assistant to White House Senior Advisor David Axelrod, and later as Director of Strategic Planning for the White House Council of Economic Advisers.
Senator Lesser is also a Fellow with the Truman National Security Project, a World Economic Forum Global Shaper, and was named a “Face of the Democratic Future” by American Prospect Magazine.
Senator Lesser lives in his hometown of Longmeadow with his wife, Alison Silber, his young daughter Rose, and their dog, Cooper.
