STEVEN M. WALSH was elected to the Massachusetts House of Representatives in November of 2002 and represents the 11th Essex District. He was recently appointed to and is currently serving as Chairman of the House Committee on Health Care Financing. He has served as the Vice Chair of the Public Health Committee, the Vice Chair of the Committee on Capital Assets, Bonding and Long Term Debt, Chairman of the Committee on Community Development & Small Business and the Chairman of the Committee on State Administration & Regulatory Oversight.
Steve has had significant interest in the prevention of Oxycontin and Prescription Drug Abuse among young people, and founded and served on the Oxycontin and Other Drug Abuse Commission of 2005. He is an advocate for the growth of industry in the green jobs and Biotechnology sectors and has been working tirelessly to bring these emerging technologies to the City of Lynn and Boston’s North Shore. He has also been an advocate for small businesses, and for accessible and affordable health care coverage for working families.
Outside of his legislative work, Steve is the Chairman of the Board of Directors for Lynn Arts, Inc., a non-profit arts and cultural organization in the city of Lynn. He is also an adjunct faculty member of North Shore Community College’s Public Policy Institute and is a practicing attorney in Lynn.
He is a native of Lynn and is a graduate of St. John’s Preparatory School, Wesleyan University, and New England School of Law in Boston. He currently resides in Lynn with his wife Annie and their children Coleman, Maeve and Myles.
