+ − Biography
Senator Brian Taniguchi has served as an elected member of the Hawaii State Legislature since 1980 - in the House of Representatives from 1980 to 1994, and in the Senate since 1994. He represents Hawaii's 11th Senatorial District, which includes the areas of Mānoa, Makiki, Punchbowl, and Papakōlea in Honolulu, O‘ahu. Senator Taniguchi presently serves as Chair of the Committee on Labor, Culture and the Arts; Vice Chair of the Committee on Energy, Economic Development, and Tourism; and is a member of the Committee on Ways and Means.
Senator Taniguchi had previously served as chair of Judiciary and Labor; Ways and Means; and Commerce and Consumer Protection. He represented the Mānoa, Makiki, Punchbowl, and Papakōlea communities from 1980 to 1994 as State Representative in the House.
Born on November 7, 1951, Senator Taniguchi and his wife, Janice, have two children (Karli and Daniel) and three grandchildren (Roysen, Lucy, and Hunter). Senator Taniguchi is a graduate from Roosevelt High School and received a B.A. from the University of Hawai‘i in 1973. He continued his education receiving his J.D. from the University of Hawai‘i Richardson School of Law in 1978.
