+ − Biography
Representative Nicole Lowen serves House District 7, which goes from the middle of Kailua-Kona town, north to Waikoloa Road, and along the coast all the way up to Spencer Beach Park. It includes Kailua-Kona, Kealakehe, Honokohau, Holualoa, Kaloko, Kaloko Mauka, Kalaoa, Kiholo, Pu'u Anahulu, Pu'u Wa'awa'a, Waikoloa Beach, parts of Waikoloa Village, and Puako. Representative Lowen was first elected in 2012, and is now serving her sixth two-year term. She is the Chair of the House Committee on Energy and Environmental Protection, the Co-Chair of the House Special Committee on Red Hill, and a is member of the Committee on Agriculture and the Committee on Consumer Protection and Commerce. In previous years, Rep. Lowen has served on other committees including Finance, Grants-in-Aid, Judiciary, Hawaiian Affairs, Water and Land, and Ocean Resources. She is the founder of the Hawaii Environmental Legislative Caucus, a member of the Hawaii Climate Mitigation and Adaptation Commission, the Hawaii Invasive Species Council, and the Sea Grant Advisory Council. In addition to her work in-state, Rep. Lowen is currently serving her third year as an appointee to the US Department of Energy's Electricity Advisory Committee, and is serving as the Co-Chair of the Council of State Government's Western Region Committee on Energy and Environment. Rep. Lowen attended the University of Pennsylvania as an undergrad, and the University of Hawaii at Manoa for graduate school.
