Representative Mele Carroll was sworn in as the Representative from the 13th District in 2005. The 13th District is a true "canoe" district as it includes: Molokai, Lanai, Kahoolawe and a portion of East Maui.
Mele brings a wealth of county and State work experience to the Capitol. As the Chair of the House Hawaiian Affairs Committee (2009-2010), Representative is the House advocate on all major legislation and budgetary decision affecting Hawaiian communities. As the Chair of this House Committee, Mele was responsible for a wide range of topics such as the OHA budget, land claims, water rights, perpetuation of the Hawaiian language, and preservation of trust assets.
Representative Carroll, a Native Hawaiian, is a graduate of James Campbell High School, and majored in business administration at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Mele is married to Warren Kalei Carroll of Napili, Maui.
