Daniel Holt, a full-time Democrat, recently elected to the Hawai'i State House of Representatives in November 2016. Representing the 29th district - which includes Kalihi, Palama, Iwilei and Chinatown.
Daniel, born, raised and a lifelong resident of the Kalihi community, attended Kalihi Union Church Preschool before enrolling at the University Laboratory School. In the 7th grade he was accepted into the Kapalama Campus of Kamehameha Schools where he later graduated in 2002. Daniel furthered his education at the University of the Pacific and earned a Bachelor's of Science in Business Administration in 2006.
The Holt 'Ohana has been deeply rooted in the Kalihi community for three generations, living in the same family home for well over 50 years. Daniel is no stranger to the political realm. His father is former Hawaii State Legislator Milton Holt who represented Kapalama, Kalihi, 'Alewa Heights, and Chinatown as both a Representative and Senator between 1978 to 1996. Daniel is deeply concerned about the issues facing the residents and businesses of his community why he decided to serve his community.
In 2009, Daniel began working at the Hawaii State Senate as a bills researcher for the Senate Ways and Means Committee under Senator Donna Mercado Kim and stayed on as permanent staff as the committee leadership transitioned to former senator and now Governor David Ige. After one year working as a legislative aide to late Senator Gilbert Kahele, Daniel returned to Senator Kim's staff to committee clerk the Senate Special Committee on Accountability following the Stevie Wonder concert mishap at the University of Hawai'i. For the next two years he worked as the legislative liaison/director in the Senate President's office and in 2014, Daniel was appointed by the Hawai'i State Senate to serve as the Assistant Sergeant-at-Arms.
