Ken Clark is currently a real estate agent and has a long history of political activity in Arizona. He was the campaign manager on the NO on 200 state-wide ballot effort to defeat the so-called "payday loan reform". He was most recently the co-chair of the non-partisan Arizona Competitive Districts Coalition, which sought to build a greater number of competitive districts during the 2011-12 legislative and congressional redistricting process.
Prior to that, he represented renewable energy and energy efficiency products and interests in Arizona. He was the Chairman and Director of Fair Districts, Fair Election, an effort to make more competitive legislative and congressional districts in Arizona. In 2006, he was the Campaign Manager for the successful Arizona Together campaign, "No on Proposition 107." Prior to this work, Ken was the Director of the Energy Office for the State of Arizona.
Ken served in the 46th Legislature, representing 171,000 residents in District 15, in the heart of Phoenix. In the House of Representatives, he served on the Ways and Means Committee and the Rules Committee, and was the ranking Democrat on the Environment Committee.
During and before that time, he owned a graphic design business, which managed client accounts in America with designers based in Australia.
Prior to that, Ken spent a decade working in non-profit and political organizations in America and Europe. Ken was the Campaign Coordinator for the Arizona Democratic Party's state legislative campaign committee. The Democrats gained four seats in the state legislature in the 2000 elections.
He worked for Neighborhood Partners, which sought to strengthen relationships between neighborhood groups in Phoenix in order to solve difficult urban problems. He was also an Equal Justice Fellow and lobbyist for the William Morris Institute for Justice in Phoenix.
From 1995 to 1998, Ken created and produced a series of conflict resolution-based talk radio programs that aired on radio stations across Bosnia. He was the Bosnian Country Director for Search for Common Ground, the international mediation and citizen diplomacy organization. He trained over 100 journalists, producers and radio hosts and oversaw over 300 hours of program broadcasts. He reported on his work to organizations such as the National Security Council and the European Union and published in trade journals and periodicals.
During graduate school, Ken worked for the Concord Coalition, the Washington DC-based deficit reduction organization, founded by Senators Paul Tsongas and Warren Rudman. In 1995, he completed his Master's Degree in International Relations from the American University in Washington, DC.
Ken went to college at Northern Arizona University. In 1990, Ken was an intern to the offices of Senator Dennis DeConcini, and in 1992, he worked for the Karan English for Congress Campaign.
Ken first moved to Sierra Vista, Arizona with his family in 1981. He left in 1985 to attend a NATO high school in Holland, and returned in 1989 to begin studies at NAU.
